Thunder Press - June 07 Issue
One would think after a few years of writing this column that the repeat events should come to mind automatically; but no, it’s usually a pleasant surprise when someone mentions an upcoming ride. I often get flyers from organizers (thank heavens, cuz if they’re counting on my memory, they’re doomed!) and always try to get them in the column. So for June, I’ve gotten several, some new, some repeats. First, from last month and arriving too late to get into the May column, I wanted to give a hi and sorry to miss it to Halle Fetty, her husband George and the hard working organizers of the Motorcycle Awareness Month event held out in the desert. Indio city officials contacted Halle at Valley V-Twin Motorcycle Sales at 82-780 Indio Blvd. in Indio to organize an event to tie in with the monthly Old Town Indio Street Fair that is held every month. Halle being the great organizer she is took the bull by the horns and started asking for volunteers to help get together a bike show, bike games, advertising and live music for this community event. Always a brilliant idea on someone’s part to tie in the community with a biker event; most people attending a street fair have no idea what a biker event is like, so the chance to invite them to bike games and a bike show is a perfect icebreaker. Local vendors took on the expense of sponsoring the bike show awards. Also there was a tent sponsored by MSF/CMSP showing a variety of motorcycle training videos (Halle’s husband George and co-owner of Valley V-Twin is a certified riding instructor (I don’t envy him that job!) While all this organizing was going on, Halle had herself scheduled for Lasik surgery. You are quite a woman Halle, hope all was smooth!...
