A Crash Course for the Motorcyclist - Sponsored by Valley V-Twin, a local motorcycle dealership and the City of Indio.

22 Coachella Valley motorcyclists attended a very special one day class today to learn how to provide care to injured riders. How to secure the scene of the accident, safely remove a full-face helmet in order to provide life sustaining rescue breathing, and how to safely move an injured rider were some of the hands-on training these motorcyclists received.

The class was taught by Denise Carey, R.N. from Houston. Ms. Carey is an Instructor/Instructor Trainer for the Accident Scene Management, Inc.  in Wisconsin. The goals of all ASMI programs are to reduce injuries and fatalities to motorcyclists at the scene of a motorcycle crash, to reduce rescuer injury, and to enhance the effectiveness of the EMS by having trained bystanders tend to the injured until professional help arrives.

The City of Indio provided the use of the Indio Senior Center for the class at no charge to support the safety of the local motorcycle community.

George & Halle Fetty, owners of Valley V-Twin, would like to thank the bikers who made the time to attend this very special and important class. Valley V-Twin will bring this class back to the Coachella Valley next May along with the follow up class "Advanced Bystander Assistance Program" - for those who have already taken the Basic course.
